It’s a typically busy Saturday afternoon for the ITV Racing team, with seven races coming to you live from Newmarket, Haydock Park and the Curragh.
The main events come from Newmarket on a high-quality card that includes the Cheveley Park Stakes and Middle Park Stakes – both Group 1s – ahead of the ultra-competitive Cambridgeshire Handicap at 3.35pm.
Enda McElhinney looks to follow up last Saturday’s Ayr Gold Cup 1-2 and he’s siding with Frankie Dettori and John Gosden in his Cambridgeshire Handicap betting preview.

Enda has seven Saturday winners in waiting for you this week. You can read the analysis behind his selections below.
Odds correct at time of publishing and may be subject to change.
1.50 Newmarket – Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
We’re straight into the thick of things with the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes. Aidan O’Brien has won the previous two renewals with Mohawk and Royal Dornoch and he brings over Ontario to try and land the hat-trick, but his challenger has plenty to find on form.
New Mandate was gutsy under Frankie Dettori at York last time and should improve over a mile but COBH stands out. He has won two from three so far and the form of his one defeat, when he finished second behind Champagne Stakes winner Chindit at Ascot, is very strong. He scored nicely last time at Salisbury and is fancied for the Clive Cox team.
Tip: Cobh @ 5/2 with BetVictor
2.05 Haydock – Close Brothers Handicap (1m)
ALTERNATIVE FACT didn’t find Glorious Goodwood to his liking last time out but his previous form this season, including a soft-ground Haydock win over a mile, has been very pleasing and a mark of 95 is within his range for winning based on his previous second on Merseyside behind Qaysar.
He handles soft ground, is a course winner and stays further than this, all of which ensures he ticks plenty boxes in an open event.
Tip: Alternative Fact @ 11/2 with BetVictor
2.25 Newmarket – Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1, 6f)
It’s hard to look past the unbeaten Dandalla, who comes here fresh, but this is a tough test and her perfect record may go. Miss Amulet held off William Haggas’s filly SACRED to win the Lowther last month at York and the latter has since finished second in the Flying Childers at Doncaster.
That race hardly went to plan and she was forced to go for home early, so with new cheekpieces fitted today and back up to 6f, the Cheveley Park runner can cure a bout of second-itis under in-form Tom Marquand while reversing York form with the Irish raider.
Tip: Sacred @ 6/1 with BetVictor
2.40 Haydock – Close Brothers Motor Finance Handicap (5f)
He’s the old boy in the line-up but DARK SHOT has found his mojo again of late, winning at Southwell and Leicester either side of a defeat by a neck at Catterick, all three runs at this minimum distance.
Dark Shot is still well treated on his peak form despite a 4lb penalty for Monday’s success and can give another solid account in his current mood.
Tip: Dark Shot @ 6/1 with BetVictor
3.00 Newmarket – Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (Group 1, 6f)
There’s another unbeaten contender here in the form of Martyn Meade’s Method, faultless in two starts so far and with the form of those wins enhanced since. Frankie Dettori’s mount, along with Minzaal, leads a strong British challenge, while Tactical might have a say if the ground holds up.
But it is Irish raider LUCKY VEGA that’s fancied. His win in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last month was very taking and Jessica Harrington’s colt got no run back there in the National Stakes since, finishing fifth after meeting traffic. He sets the standard.
Tip: Lucky Vega @ 7/2 with BetVictor
3.15 The Curragh – Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
Aidan O’Brien has won the last nine renewals and has outstanding claims again with High Definition, Brazil and Sir Lucan in the mix. The first-named looks potentially very good and is the one to beat under Seamie Heffernan.
But WUQOOD travelled like a good horse when making a winning debut at Gowran Park for Dermot Weld last month. The Dubawi colt just held on at the end but could improve markedly and should be in the mix under Oisin Orr despite the Ballydoyle brigade.
Tip: Wuqood @ 11/2 with BetVictor
3.35 Newmarket – bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m 1f)
A field of 29 tells you all how tough this punting challenge is but, having won the last two renewals with progressive three-year-olds, John Gosden and Frankie Dettori can land another with AL RUFAA.
He can be keen in his races but he’s got an ideal man on board now to help him settle and, having stuttered in a four-runner Haydock race last time, there’s a feeling he may thrive among rivals in this packed field.
Tip: Al Rufaa @ 20/1 with BetVictor
