Isn’t it nice when a corporation listens to those who shower them with cash? Ever since the beginning of raids in Pokémon GO, Niantic has implemented a system where raid passes will be consumed as soon as a player enters a raid lobby. While this may not sound like an issue to those in densely-populated cities, it has long been a problem for many players. Pokémon GO trainers, in an effort to show nearby players that there is interest in a raid, will feed an active raid their pass. Then, that player will wait in the raid lobby in hopes that another trainer will join them. Often, this doesn’t happen, leaving the sole trainer out one raid pass, as both Tier Four raids and the coveted Tier Five raids, in which raiders can defeat and catch Legendary Pokémon, are impossible to take down as a solo player. Now, years after implementing the raiding system and likely millions of dollars made on unused but spent raid passes, Niantic has announced a solution to this issue.
Trainers, we’re happy to share that when you use a Raid Pass, Premium Battle Pass, or Remote Raid Pass to join a Raid Battle, the pass will now be consumed when the Raid Battle begins instead of when you join the lobby.
This small change may have a major impact on the game. Not only will players no longer waste money on battles that never begin but now, with the fear of losing a raid pass gone, trainers will be more likely to start raid lobbies. This may be exactly what the Pokémon GO rural community, many of whom have been unable to do Legendary Raids, are looking for. Currently, as of the release of this new feature, the Tier Five raid boss is the legendary dragon Kyurem. Tier Four Pokémon include Nidoking and Victreebel, along with three Pokémon with shiny potentials: Absol, Likitung, and the fan-favorite Alolan Marowak. With remote raid passes and this new no-risk feature Niantic has implemented, you can now throw in on any of these battles with no fear. As Niantic ramps up for GO Fest, expect more news on raids, remote raid invites, and more coming from the mobile developer.
